Teaching philosophy
Teaching literature is teaching attention: to language, to form, to the histories and feelings a text carries. Dr. Dawit’s classes treat students as fellow readers, combining close reading with theory so that students can explain not only what a text means but how and for whom it means.
A background in TEFL and language-laboratory teaching shapes a practical, student-centred approach: clear learning outcomes, scaffolded reading and writing tasks, formative feedback and the purposeful use of digital tools. Inclusivity and academic integrity, including the honest, critical use of AI tools, are built into every course.
